kidney

 kid·ney/ˈkidnē

noun

each of a pair of organs in the abdominal cavity of mammals, birds, and reptiles, excreting urine

What are kidneys?

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs in the renal system. They help the body pass waste as urine. They also help filter blood before sending it back to the heart.

When your kidneys aren't working properly, it can cause you to feel tired, weak and can make it hard to concentrate. Another complication of kidney disease is anemia, which can cause weakness and fatigue.

When the kidneys aren't filtering properly, toxins stay in the blood rather than leaving the body through the urine.

The kidneys perform many crucial functions, including:

  • maintaining overall fluid balance
  • regulating and filtering minerals from blood
  • filtering waste materials from food, medications, and toxic substances
  • creating hormones that help produce red blood cells, promote bone health, and regulate blood pressure

In short - because kidneys have several important functions in the body, it's wise to keep them healthy. Sometimes problems arise due to genetics or other health related issues. Support is available:
